Also, as a black person, I can't help but to feel l singled out and reduced to a color when I am so much more than a color. I am a human being who simple wants to be treated and recognized as such. I want to be treated as a whole, not objectified as a part. I totally understand that it's suppose to be a term of endearment and it means no harm, but all in all, it hurts and I feel left out. I feel like I am being looked at as black, not as me and the seems unfair. Somehow, this celebration can get lost and superficial, and stereotyped. It just feels weird naming black artist and segregating them when in the end, we all artist. Black History month is pretty uncomfortable for myself and family, because we celebrate who we are and our history everyday by loving each other and willing the good for one another.Ā
